Compress Image to 1MB: is this the right limit?

This preset starts the image compressor at 1MB. It is most useful when the website, application, or document portal accepting your image specifies that maximum. The result depends on the source image; a target is not a promise of identical quality or exact output size.

When this target makes sense

a photo or graphic that must fit within a 1MB upload allowance.

Practical advice for 1MB

A 1MB limit may allow more detail than small kilobyte targets. Use it when the destination requires a maximum, then check the output size and keep the original if you may need full-resolution detail later.

A 1MB target does not mean the output will be exactly 1MB. If the original already fits, compression may not improve it; if it is very detailed, the result still depends on its dimensions and content.

A reliable image-compression check

  1. Check the destination's maximum file size, accepted format, and required pixel dimensions.
  2. Upload up to three images (20MB maximum each), crop unused content if helpful, and keep the 1MB preset unless you need another limit.
  3. Compress and review the resulting image. Confirm its actual size and that important text, edges, and subject details remain clear.
  4. If it is still too large or no longer readable, try a more focused crop or a larger limit if the destination allows one.

Choose a different image size

Use the limit required by the receiving site. These presets change the starting target; the tool also lets you adjust it.
