Check the upload requirements first
Before compressing, check the receiving site's maximum file size, accepted format, and required pixel dimensions. A file-size limit alone does not guarantee that an upload will be accepted; some forms also require a minimum resolution or a particular image format.
This page opens with a 100 KB target. Change the value in the compressor if your destination specifies a different limit. In this tool, 1 MB is calculated as 1,024 KB (1,048,576 bytes).
What happens to the image
The compressor processes the image in your browser and creates JPEG output. It may change the pixel dimensions to approach the selected size. JPEG is a lossy format, so inspect fine text, signatures, edges, and photo details before using the result.
JPEG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in an input image are filled with white in the output. If transparency matters, do not use this compressor for that file.
Verify the downloaded result
- Use crop or resize first only if the destination allows the resulting image dimensions.
- Compress and check the displayed output size. If the destination requires specific pixel dimensions, inspect the downloaded image's properties too; the target is not a guarantee of an exact file size.
- Open the downloaded image and check that important details remain readable and that the destination accepts JPEG.
- If it misses the file-size limit or loses too much detail, try a different target or source crop and inspect the new result before submitting it.
File handling and limits
This tool processes selected images in the browser rather than uploading them as part of its compression workflow. It accepts up to three images at a time, with a maximum input size of 20 MB per image. Supported input formats depend on what the browser can decode.
