Consignment & Transport Details

Portal value = taxable value + GST + cess (the value declared on the invoice / bill of supply / delivery challan).

Special cases (override the value threshold)

E-WAY BILL APPLICABILITY

Consignment Value (incl. GST & cess)₹75,000.00
Exemption Threshold₹50,000.00
E-Way Bill StatusMANDATORY
Deciding factorConsignment value exceeds the threshold
Regular cargo validity320 km → 2 day(s) (200 km/day)
ODC / multimodal validity320 km → 16 day(s) (20 km/day)

Validity starts from generation time and each day ends at midnight of the following day (not 24 hours). It is 200 km/day for regular cargo and 20 km/day for ODC or multimodal movement (a leg by ship); 0 km → 0 days. Extension is allowed within 8 hours after expiry by updating Part B (vehicle / RR number). Cancellation is allowed within 24 hours, only if goods are not moved and not intercepted. The portal uses its own PIN-to-PIN distance, which can exceed the kilometres entered here and shorten the validity.

E-Way Bill Calculator

Use this free E-Way Bill Calculator to check whether an E-Way Bill may be required based on the consignment value, movement type, applicable threshold, and special cases. You can also estimate E-Way Bill validity from the transport distance and cargo type.

How to use the E-Way Bill Calculator

  1. Enter the total consignment value including GST and cess.
  2. Enter the approximate transport distance in kilometres.
  3. Select whether the movement is inter-state or intra-state.
  4. Select the cargo or vehicle type.
  5. For intra-state movement, select the state of movement.
  6. Select any applicable special case to see how it affects E-Way Bill applicability.

E-Way Bill validity calculation

The calculator estimates validity using the transport distance. Regular cargo uses 200 kilometres per day, while Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) and applicable multimodal movements use 20 kilometres per day.

Cargo typeDistance per day
Regular Cargo200 km/day
ODC / Multimodal20 km/day

Inter-state and intra-state movement

The calculator treats ₹50,000 as the default exemption threshold for determining applicability. For intra-state movement, the calculator allows a state-specific threshold to be selected where applicable.

Special notified cases and exemptions can override the normal value-based threshold, so the result should be considered an informational calculation rather than a substitute for the applicable GST rules or the official E-Way Bill portal.

Important notes

  • E-Way Bill validity starts from the time of generation.
  • Each validity day ends at midnight of the following day rather than being a simple 24-hour period.
  • The actual PIN-to-PIN distance used by the E-Way Bill portal may differ from the distance entered in this calculator.
  • Applicable exemptions and notified special cases can change whether an E-Way Bill is required.
  • Always verify the current rules and requirements before generating or transporting an E-Way Bill.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an E-Way Bill?

An E-Way Bill is an electronic document used for the movement of goods under the GST system in India. It contains details of the goods, consignor, consignee, and transportation.

When is an E-Way Bill generally required?

An E-Way Bill is generally required when goods of a consignment exceed the applicable threshold value, subject to exemptions and special cases under GST rules.

What is the standard E-Way Bill value threshold?

The commonly applicable threshold is ₹50,000, although specific intra-state rules and notified cases can vary.

How is E-Way Bill validity calculated?

For regular cargo, validity is generally calculated at one day for every 200 kilometres or part thereof. For Over Dimensional Cargo and applicable multimodal movements, the calculation uses one day for every 20 kilometres or part thereof.

Does the transport distance affect E-Way Bill validity?

Yes. The entered transport distance is used to estimate validity. The actual portal PIN-to-PIN distance can differ from the manually entered distance.

What happens if an E-Way Bill is exempt under Rule 138(14)?

Specified movements covered by the exemptions under Rule 138(14) do not require an E-Way Bill, regardless of the consignment value.
